Melvich Bay, Sutherland (Dave Purchase)

Let’s start to explore the fascinating world of seashores, the most biodiverse biome on our planet, where sea meets land and life proliferates.

Buxton and the High Peak are about as far from the sea as it’s possible to get in Britain, but way back in geological time our limestone and sandstone landscape were formed by shallow seas and vast river deltas.

All land life made the transition from its sea=based origins via this boundary. Like most edges, they are incredibly creative, lively and diverse.
